Unity asked:

Why can’t Christian denominations agree on one way of teaching God’s word?

There are so many gods, it’s mayhem………………

PJ Morris October 11, 2008 at 10:00 am

there should be no church at all.

Higgs Boson October 14, 2008 at 11:08 am

Yes, just one, located somewhere in Missouri.

belladonna October 14, 2008 at 11:20 pm

No. God allows different worship styles, and also we have a free will to totally reject Him

Old Man fron Scene 24 October 15, 2008 at 11:22 am

Yes. And the church building capacity and membership level should be 28 people maximum.

But not in Missouri. I live there. Maybe East St Louis over in Illinois, but no closer.

jezuszuigt October 17, 2008 at 2:04 pm

I think there should be no christian church, christianity brings nothing but bigotry and misery.

Bwian's Virgin Mum ????su? October 18, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Because the spirit of discernment that was promised never materialized.

LOLA. October 19, 2008 at 4:25 am

Because there are so many different ways to interpret it.

No one will ever agree so different denominations keep the peace in a way.

there was uintil the orthodoxes and prods had to split

coolangel October 20, 2008 at 9:34 am

no to the First question.
Because we have different ways of interpreting the word of God.

punch October 22, 2008 at 4:56 am

Because they all have different interpretations of the bible. You can’t agree on the bible, much less anything else. And they all say that “they’re” the one true way.

joshc3 October 24, 2008 at 12:01 am

yes i do because christianity is simple. everyone is bad. so god sent his son to die and forgive us of our sins so we could be with him in heaven. Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is lord and believe in your heart god raised him from the dead you will be saved. watch this video it will help.

Daisymae October 24, 2008 at 7:04 pm

I think church “division” is Satanic. It happened in the churches of the biblical times. There is only one church, the body of believers. I mean we are all reading the same book.

Patricia C October 26, 2008 at 2:54 am

People who have similar beliefs get together and worship. Since there are many different beliefs, there must be many different churches.

mac-a-licious October 26, 2008 at 3:42 am

How do the questions of Infant versus adult baptism and apostolic succession versus altar call get resolved?

HoldemDB9 October 28, 2008 at 10:58 am

Saying why cant all the Christian denominations agree on one way of teaching, is like like saying why cant all religions agree on one way of teaching. It does not work like that. I believe that there should be no churches, but I am a Christian.

DC October 31, 2008 at 4:21 am

No. Because you have Rebellion that goes back to Moses. Even all the people then wanted to worship differently than how Moses was teaching them. It’lll never be possible. But, that won’t stop the Pope from trying to unite everyone.

The Pope is a Great Man of God. His teachings don’t line up with the Bible’s Commandments, but he’s still a Great Man. I chose not to follow him for there are many reasons in the bible that contradict the catholic doctrines, however, that does not mean I **** the catholics. In my church there are many catholic converts who are just as smart and loving as anybody else in the world.

Shroedinger's Catechism ART November 1, 2008 at 10:58 pm

Do you really think there IS only “one way of teaching God’s word”? Do you think that the diversity of Christian belief and worship is offensive to an infinite deity? Must there be only one “correct” form of Christian observance?

Is God as narrow as a church door?

Deborah R November 4, 2008 at 12:57 am

No but we all should be worshiping one God.

mugen freak! November 6, 2008 at 12:35 am

first of all we all agree on one thing. SIN. So for all those who don’t follow and read the bible well enough then of course there will be denominations.

1 November 6, 2008 at 5:51 am

no, it would lead to big arguements , i just wish they could agree on one thing, some parts are very extreme though. and also they have too many different beliefs to have one church

G C November 7, 2008 at 11:40 am

There is only one church. It is the church of the New Testament. Any that are like it, is the church.

marieb1957 November 10, 2008 at 3:52 am

You are right – if you read the Bible, the New Testament in particular, Jesus & the Apostles taught that there should just be one church, preaching God’s word with no additions, subtractions, or embellishments.

As to why denominations can’t agree on what is so clearly written by the inspired writers of the New Testament – they are still hung up on the traditions of men; they are ignoring the Word of God.

brenda m November 12, 2008 at 4:42 am

If they all returned home to the Catholic Church, we would all be one again. Come back, we will welcome you. Roman Catholic. God love you.

David L November 14, 2008 at 10:24 pm

There was one. It was called the Catholic Church and then all the protestants broke off and caused 33,000 different denominiations. We’re still here if you want to rejoin. Look into the history of Christianity and you’ll see that the Catholics were the one True Church.

Isobel November 15, 2008 at 7:28 pm

I don’t think the idea is possible. There are far too many Christians out there, from such a wide range of countries and cultures…I don’t see how so many people could all come to a unified belief.

There are too many little questions about Christianity – i.e., should the Bible be taken literally, can evolution and creation co-exist, how old is the Earth, which version of the Bible is correct, etc.

However, I certainly agree that the conflicts between different churches are ridiculous, and that it is silly to focus on the little differences between Christians.

I once asked a question about this, and I was shocked to see how many people started insulting other denominations. I got answers like, “But Catholics are child molestors!”, “Evolutionist Christians are idiots!”, “MY church is the only TRUE church!”, and “The ____ Church degrades Christianity!”

guitarrman45 November 17, 2008 at 7:33 am

There is only one church. Christ is only coming for one church. And that consists of all of the true believers. No matter what denomination or sect.

Serv'd My Time In Hell November 18, 2008 at 11:59 pm

If there’s only supposed to one word of God, then there isn’t any reason for thousands of Christian franchises – except for man’s need for the freedom to interpret God within his own heart…read into that what you will…

….without Justice and Compassion, religion has no meaning…

ImWithU November 21, 2008 at 5:41 am

Yes, I agree: one that trusts in and relies on God, and one who only believse in salvation by his forgiving grace alone. That is, after all, what a true Christian is.

Stuart Smalley November 23, 2008 at 6:12 am

There should only be one world church in my opinion. And not strictly Christian either. It should be a church based on a generic god – one that everyone can agree with and beliefs that take science into account. Although, that probably is impossible. And I suspect after a while, people would start to create their own little sects anyway, because it is human nature to do so. Therein lies the problem though. These sects begin to believe that their way is the only way and everyone else is just wrong. The shiites and the sunnis both believe in Allah but they are at the point of killing each other. The greek orthodox and the armenian monks are both Christians but they are getting into fist fights over control of a holy site. This is the reason why religion is so dangerous. It takes people’s passions and ratchets it up several notches. You see people who disagree with you as ‘the enemy’ and what do you do with an enemy? You have to destroy him or else he will ******* everything you believe in. This is why I admire Buddhism so much. In Buddhism, any such longing to push one’s own agenda or strive for control or any selfish striving at all is considered a disease of the mind. Hatred, anger, greed, envy are all diseases of the mind. God is a like a handful of water, if you grip too tightly or try to force the water to do your will, you will find that it is impossible. God will continue on forever even if we kill each other trying to ‘honor’ him.

copperhead89 November 25, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Hey- you think like the antichrist and the Pope.

Ben November 26, 2008 at 12:05 pm

Yes there should only be one church. You have cult-like churches which are only dedicated to brainwashing and bullshit. In New Zealand, where I live, there is a church which does just that.

Mykael Libertine November 29, 2008 at 4:46 am

Nope, Satan has already won! In Jesus’ own words “a house divided will surely fall.” The schisms of the church are proof that the “all-powerful” choose it not. Without the bickering and fighting ennui would of set in and killed off the church long ago. As Anton LeVey once wrote “the devil is the best friend the church has ever had, as he (the devil) has kept it in business all these years.”

tebone0315 November 30, 2008 at 1:53 pm

For over 1,600 years there was only one church. Now we have Catholic Christians, Orthodox Christians and over 38,000 denominations of Protestant Christians.

ONE CHURCH – Is there to be only one Church or many? According to Scripture, Christ wanted us to be one (John 17:22-23). We are all as a Church to be of one mind and to think the same (Philippians 2:2; Romans 15:5). There is only to be one “faith” (Ephesians 4:3-6), not many. For the Church is Christ’s Body and Christ only had one Body, not many. Also, since the Church is Christ’s Bride (Ephesians 5:29), can Christ be married to more than one wife (essentially a spiritual form of the the sin of polygamy)? No, Christ can only have one wife (i.e., one Church, not many).

Every Christian believes that Jesus Christ established and sustains a community of faith, hope and love for all believers. This community we call His Church. The Church that Christ founded is the Catholic Church in 33AD which has a formal earthly structure established by Christ and which continues under His authority and protection.

Jesus did three things that established the framework of His Church. First, He chose humans to carry out His work. He appointed Peter to be the visible head of the Church. Jesus said to Peter, “You are Rock and on this rock I will build my Church.” (Matthew 16: 18) Jesus said “build,” as in to create a structure. Jesus built His structure on specifically chosen human beings Peter and the apostles.

Second, Jesus gave Peter and the apostles the power and authority to carry out His work. “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.”(Matthew 16:19; 18:18) “Receive the Holy Spirit, whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven, whose sins you retain, they are retained.”(John 20:23)

Third, Jesus gave Peter and the apostles commands as to what that work should be. At the last supper, He commanded, “Do this in memory of Me.” (Luke 22:19) He commanded them to “Make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), and to “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)

The Catholic Church is the only church that can claim to have been founded by Christ personally. Every other church traces its lineage back to a mere human person such as Martin Luther or John Wesley. The Catholic Church can trace its lineage back to Jesus Christ who appointed St. Peter as the first pope. This line of popes has continued unbroken for almost 2,000 years.

God rules, instructs and sanctifies His people through His Church. Under her teaching office, the Catholic Church preserves the Word of God. She is the custodian, keeper, dispenser and interpreter of teachings of Christ. And she accomplishes this under the protection of the Holy Spirit.

FOUR MARKS OF THE TRUE CHURCH

If we wish to locate the Church founded by Jesus, we need to locate the one that has the four chief marks or qualities of his Church. The Church we seek must be one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.

The Church Is One (Rom. 12:5, 1 Cor. 10:17, 12:13, CCC 813–822)
Jesus established only one Church, not a collection of differing churches (Lutheran, Baptist, Anglican, and so on). The Bible says the Church is the bride of Christ (Eph. 5:23–32). Jesus can have but one spouse, and his spouse is the Catholic Church.

His Church also teaches just one set of doctrines, which must be the same as those taught by the apostles (Jude 3). This is the unity of belief to which Scripture calls us (Phil. 1:27, 2:2).

Although some Catholics dissent from officially-taught doctrines, the Church’s official teachers—the pope and the bishops united with him—have never changed any doctrine. Over the centuries, as doctrines are examined more fully, the Church comes to understand them more deeply (John 16:12–13), but it never understands them to mean the opposite of what they once meant.

The Church Is Holy (Eph. 5:25–27, Rev. 19:7–8, CCC 823–829)
By his grace Jesus makes the Church holy, just as he is holy. This doesn’t mean that each member is always holy. Jesus said there would be both good and bad members in the Church (John 6:70), and not all the members would go to heaven (Matt. 7:21–23).

But the Church itself is holy because it is the source of holiness and is the guardian of the special means of grace Jesus established, the sacraments (cf. Eph. 5:26).

The Church Is Catholic (Matt. 28:19–20, Rev. 5:9–10, CCC 830–856)
Jesus’ Church is called catholic (“universal” in Greek) because it is his gift to all people. He told his apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of “all nations” (Matt. 28:19–20).

For 2,000 years the Catholic Church has carried out this mission, preaching the good news that Christ died for all men and that he wants all of us to be members of his universal family (Gal. 3:28).

Over 38,000 Sects “Scattered” Outside The One Church Founded By Christ

There Was Only ONE Church Founded By Christ

AND HIS CHURCH STILL LIVES TODAY!!

Catholic Christian

Think long and hard about this one, and see if you can
come up with the answer yourself.

Stumped?

Puzzled?

Confused?

I’ll give you a hint. There is no such thing as a god.

obsfucater December 4, 2008 at 3:30 pm

wow That would be great. Lets build it on Bikini Atoll and turn all the other churches around the world into museums and low cost housing. Anyone attending services who Jesus truly loves won’t die of radiation sickness.

Brad4peace December 5, 2008 at 12:39 pm

Roman Catholic. That will happen one day and hereafter for a while, Wait until the 3 days of darkness passes over. Go to Search to look on Roman Catholic 3 days of darkness. Read the details. Its will happen on a Thursday of on Sept 14th to Sat of Our Lady of Sorrows. Which years?

house.curtis December 6, 2008 at 6:41 am

Regarding your info under the question, the reason that Christians can’t agree on anything is because the supposed “word of god” can be interpreted so many different ways that five billion different beliefs could be taken off a single verse. This definitely isnt the work of an omnipotent being. If there is a god and his best attempt to reach us is through this crappy book, god is an epic failure!

Ashton December 7, 2008 at 8:26 am

Yes, go back to the Catholic Church all ye wayward souls.

It depends on how you look at things:

1. God wants all Christians to be of one mind and set up one Church to guide his people through Peter (the rock).

2. God recognizes that all his children are different and he lets them see him in different ways, and all that matters are the basics such as love your God, love your neighbor, have faith and believe in Jesus as your savior…

pHatLip December 9, 2008 at 7:19 am

To be certain there are many denominations, but from among all of those there is only one church, and it’s members worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Seek out the Truth, and may God Bless You!

Zoso December 10, 2008 at 10:03 am

The Church of god doesn’t exist until Jesus comes back. After the temple is rebuilt and all nations rise against israel Jesus will return to destroy the nations of the world and reign on earth. The temple is currently being rebuilt right now.

omni December 12, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Should be? There already is!

Jacqueline B December 15, 2008 at 12:04 am

there should be…but there can’t be
The reason, every body’s right and nobody wants to face the fact, that Jesus is the only way to heaven.
They disagree on everything: baptism, whether or not they have to have the Holy Ghost, the way that Christians should live their lives.

The Bible clearly states: Every man doeth right in his own eyes.
And some are forever learning but they won’t be able to come to the knowledge of the truth

Hussein December 17, 2008 at 1:10 am

Yes , Jesus only, and he started ONE Church ,the Catholic Church.

Jesus Christ started a church in 33AD, not a religion. Religion came about with Martin Luther and reformation. All Christians prior to the reformation were of the Catholic Church

Wolfeblayde December 17, 2008 at 9:39 pm

There already *is* only one Christian church, and that is the Holy Catholic Church. Everything else is an offshoot of Roman Catholicism.

And yes, I’d love nothing better than to see our separated Protestant brethren return to the fullness of the Catholic Faith. Unfortunately, most of them don’t seem willing to admit their error in following Luther into heresy and rebellion so that they can be reunited with Christ’s true Church on earth.

HAND December 19, 2008 at 2:01 pm

There already is only one true Church, the Holy Roman Catholic Church. All the others are denominations.

mario_pot2 December 22, 2008 at 12:54 pm

you know in all honesty i think that te number of churches we christians today have really seperates us. i honestly feel that god doesn’t care which type of church we belong to but all of our churches need to be able to come together under god . i mean we are all connected by ou love for god and jesus and we all believe in ou lord and savior. should we have less churches? yes but that won’t happen so since that won’t happen we all need to join together and become the one church god talked about so that we might actually impact this world. however the division between catholics and protestants would be a hard pain to heal.

flamara December 22, 2008 at 11:01 pm

In the sense of denominations, there are many ‘churches’ around. But the Church isn’t a building, or an establishment.
The Church is the merging of the hearts of the people. Whoever has accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior is a part of that Church. So, in that sense, there *is* only one Church. It is the blind eyes of the common people (like you and me) that make us believe that there are many Churches, with different entity. The Church is the one body of unity of brethren in Christ.
God bless you.
