More and more often recently, accounts of after death experiences are being documented. People who are said to have died as a result of injuries or disease and come back to life have told of their experience. They claim to have seen flashes of light and visions during the time that they were clinically dead.
It is fascinating to note that most of these people tell very similar stories. Remember, at the time of the events they are dead as far as everybody around them is concerned – they have no pulse and are not breathing.
More often than not, people claim to first see visions of lights, followed by pictures of loved ones and family members, all of whom flash before their very eyes. They claim that it’s peaceful, and they characterize it by the vision of a tunnel.
The fact that so many people share the same exact experience has led many to believe that there must be some truth behind all of these claims. After all, how could so many documented chronicles all be so similar?
The medical profession, on the other hand, tends to take a different view of the phenomenon. They say the impression of being in a tunnel might be created by a lack of blood in the retina. Also, images and lights flashing before the eyes might be the brain’s reaction to a physical crisis.
Those who have been through this kind of experience, however, have no problem believing it all to have been quite real.
This is one of life’s mysteries that won’t be solved in the near future, if ever. Perhaps we are not supposed to understand it, or at least not until it happens to us when our time comes?
It’s something that’s still being researched, as it may help us unravel some of the secrets of the way the brain works.
